Fonderie Palmieri manages its production activities with a structured approach to environmental sustainability and energy efficiency, certified to the international standards ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 50001:2018.
Continuous emissions monitoring, responsible management of industrial waste and reduced energy consumption per tonne produced are measurable objectives, not statements of principle.
Environmental Management and Regulatory Compliance
Our plant operates in compliance with European IPPC regulations for secondary melting foundries with capacity exceeding 20 t/day (Ref. Legislative Decree 152/06, activity no. 2.4) and holds Integrated Environmental Authorisation (AIA) no. 2562, updated in line with Tuscany Region Decree no. 22538 of 24/10/2025.
In line with the obligations set out in the authorisation framework, we submit the technical report to the Tuscany Region every year by 30 April, containing emissions monitoring data, the self-checks carried out and the plant’s management parameters.
While legal compliance is our essential operating baseline, it is through voluntary choices that we express our true business vision.
Since 2012 we have adopted and certified our Environmental Management System according to the international standard ISO 14001:2015.
This system ensures a proactive approach that goes beyond simple regulatory compliance, guiding the company towards:
• Continuous improvement of eco-efficient performance.
• Systematic prevention and containment of impacts on air, water and soil.
• Planning technological investments aimed at long-term sustainability.

We guarantee full compliance of all our products and processes with the strictest international chemical and environmental standards.
Our Declaration of Conformity, constantly updated to reflect the latest regulatory revisions and available on request to all our customers, attests to the absence of hazardous or restricted substances throughout the entire production chain (including process materials and packaging).
The document comprehensively covers the main market requirements:
REACH Regulation (EC 1907/2006) and SVHC substances
certifies that our castings do not contain Substances of Very High Concern above the permitted limits.
RoHS Directive (2011/65/EU)
guarantees the absence of hazardous substances in applications intended for the electrical and electronic supply chains.
TSCA (Toxic Substances Control Act)
ensures chemical compliance for non-EU markets, with particular reference to US restrictions.

Air Quality and Emissions Control

Air is a precious resource and protecting it requires state-of-the-art containment technologies.
For this reason, every single main source in our production cycle — from the induction furnaces to the moulding plant, through to sand preparation, shot blasting and deburring — is monitored by dedicated, specific abatement systems, including:
• high-efficiency bag filters.
• cyclone separators.
• flue gas scrubbing systems (Scrubbers).
All the plant’s emission points are equipped with continuous monitoring probes for dust.
The measured values are consistently below the authorised limits, updated as of 01/01/2025 in strict compliance with the Tuscany Region’s Regional Air Quality Plan (PRQA). This allows us to verify the effectiveness of our filters instant by instant and guarantee total environmental transparency.
Circular Economy and Waste Management

Being a secondary melting foundry means having recycling in our DNA.
We not only give new life to metal scrap, but manage every industrial waste stream with the goal of reintroducing it into the economic cycle, minimising the plant’s ecological footprint.
Over 98% of the special waste produced by Fonderie Palmieri is destined for recovery operations.
Thanks to commercial agreements built up over time with the leading operators in the industrial waste supply chain, we guarantee total traceability and maximum regulatory compliance for every single stream. Digital Traceability: All process residues are strictly classified by EWC code and managed through dedicated software active since 2018.
Process Efficiency: The ratio between waste produced and iron melted is a key indicator we monitor annually. The stability of this value over time demonstrates the continuity, optimisation and efficiency achieved by our production cycle.

Water Resource Management and Protection

Water is a precious resource that Fonderie Palmieri manages responsibly with long-term planning.
The water used in our production process comes from a privately owned well, managed in full compliance and with a valid extraction permit.
Technological evolution and water efficiency
Our path towards water sustainability has faced and overcome the complex challenges typical of industrial innovation:
2015 – The pioneering plant
We installed the foundry sand recovery and treatment system — the first plant of its kind in Italy. As it was a complex and innovative technology, its introduction initially led to a significant increase in the plant’s water consumption.
2021 – The consumption reduction plan
To offset this impact, the company carried out a thorough overhaul of its plant systems, activating 6 Zehnder filtration units on the melting line and simultaneously decommissioning the previous water misting system.
This technological transition kicked off a structured plan to reduce water consumption, the positive results of which are clearly measurable and tracked in our internal environmental performance indicators
Energy Efficiency and the ISO 50001 System

Medium-frequency induction furnaces are Fonderie Palmieri’s main source of energy consumption.
The path towards ISO 50001:2018 certification — achieved in March 2022 — began in 2018 with a screening exercise that identified significant energy sources and led to the installation of continuous monitoring sensors for electricity, gas and compressed air.
A dedicated internal team coordinates the management of the Energy Management System, defines operating practices for each department and plans improvement targets.
Actions already implemented include: installing inverters and energy recovery drives on the main motors, progressively replacing all lighting fixtures with LED technology, and optimising production scheduling to reduce consumption for the same tonnage produced.
Carbon Footprint
In line with the most advanced demands of the market and the global supply chain, Fonderie Palmieri independently manages the reporting of its climate impacts.
Using dedicated advanced calculation tools, our Carbon Footprint study has been prepared.
The analysis takes a comprehensive approach covering the entire life cycle of our products, quantifying CO2-equivalent emissions divided into three strategic phases:
• Upstream (Scope 3): the impact linked to the sourcing and production of raw materials.
• In production (Scope 1 and 2): the plant’s energy consumption and direct processes.
• Downstream (Scope 3): the emissions generated by logistics, transport and distribution stages.
