Special high-chromium and Nihard irons

Reference standards:

EN 12513, ASTM A 532, ISO 21988

Alloyed white irons with a high chromium content (9–27%) and, in the Nihard variants, nickel (4–5%), which promote the formation of hard carbides in the matrix with hardness exceeding 600 HBW.
Their dominant characteristic is resistance to intense abrasive wear; in return, the material is brittle and difficult to machine. Typical applications: augers, impellers for abrasive pumps, linings for sandblasting and shot-blasting machines, separator cyclones, and earthmoving equipment.
