CO-ENGINEERING AND COMPONENT DEVELOPMENT

Engineering activity at Fonderie Palmieri begins in close collaboration with the customer. We analyse the component already at the design stage to optimise its manufacturability and prevent issues related to the casting process.
This approach allows us to:

• accelerate product development;
• increase production reliability.

3D DESIGN AND OPTIMISATION FOR CASTING

Design is developed in a 3D CAD environment, integrating all the variables of the casting process. We manage in-house:
• casting geometries and gating systems;
• shrinkage allowances and machining stock;
• core and moulding box design;
• optimisation for manufacturability;
Every design choice is aimed at ensuring process stability and the final quality of the component.

CASTING PROCESS SIMULATION

Simulation is a core tool in the engineering phase.
Using dedicated software, we virtually analyse the metal’s behaviour throughout all stages of casting:
• mould filling and solidification;
• porosity and shrinkage formation;
• thermal distribution.
This allows defects to be identified and corrected before production, reducing trial and error and optimising process parameters.

INDUSTRIALISATION AND CAD/CAM INTEGRATION

Once the design has been validated, we move on to the industrialisation phase.
The continuous digital flow between design and production makes it possible to:
• reduce start-up times;
• ensure consistency between the model and the finished part;
• optimise tooling design;

Engineering activities are closely integrated with the quality system.

The engineering phase is completed with component validation.
Using 3D scanning systems and comparison with the CAD model:
